Omegon 1.25″ 2x APO Barlow Lens
The Omegon 2x APO Barlow lens is a compact, high-quality optical accessory that doubles the magnification of any 1.25″ eyepiece while maintaining a sharp, color-free image. Built into an all-metal body with apochromatic three-element optics, it offers noticeably better optical performance than standard single- or two-element Barlow lenses - at a size that makes it practical to use with virtually any eyepiece or photographic adapter in your collection.
Apochromatic 3-Element Optics
The key difference between this Barlow and a basic model lies in the optical design. A conventional two-element Barlow lens introduces a small but visible amount of chromatic aberration - a color fringe that appears around fine detail and reduces the overall crispness of the image, particularly at high magnifications. The Omegon APO Barlow uses three optical elements specifically to eliminate this residual false color. The result is a clean, neutral image where stars appear as tight points of light and planetary detail is rendered with full contrast and sharpness, without any distracting color halo.
This makes the Omegon APO Barlow a particularly good match for apochromatic refractors and other telescopes where color correction is a priority - pairing a well-corrected telescope with a poorly corrected Barlow would undermine the quality of the main optics. With this three-element design, the Barlow introduces no color error of its own.
Compact Body - A Practical Advantage
At just 43 mm in length, this is one of the shortest Barlow lenses available in the 1.25″ format. This compact size is more than just a convenience - it has real optical and practical implications. The short body means that the back focus distance required to reach focus with the eyepiece is minimal, which is helpful with telescopes that have limited focuser travel or are used with bulky eyepieces and photographic adapters. There is no risk of the Barlow pushing the eyepiece out of the focuser's reach.
The compact dimensions also make the combination of Barlow and eyepiece easier to handle at the telescope, and reduce the overall weight and leverage on the focuser drawtube.
All-Metal Construction
The barrel and housing are machined from metal throughout, giving the lens the durability and rigidity that optical accessories used in the field require. There are no plastic components in the optical path or the structural body. The interior is blackened to minimize stray light and internal reflections.
Eyepiece Clamping and Filter Thread
The eyepiece is secured by a circumferential compression ring rather than a set screw. This design grips the eyepiece barrel evenly around its full circumference, holding it firmly on the optical axis without any risk of scratching the barrel surface - an important consideration for quality eyepieces with anodized or polished finishes. The grip is secure even when the telescope is pointed near the zenith.
At the telescope-side end of the barrel, a standard 1.25″ filter thread is provided. This allows any common 1.25″ filter - such as a moon filter, color filter, or light pollution filter - to be attached directly to the Barlow rather than to the eyepiece. This is particularly convenient when using multiple eyepieces with the same filter, as the filter stays on the Barlow and does not need to be moved between eyepieces.
