The DeltaOptical Plossl 6mm eyepiece belongs to the classic Plössl series, which has earned lasting popularity among astronomers thanks to its proven optical design. Optical design
The Plössl design consists of two symmetrically arranged achromatic doublets - four optical elements in total. This arrangement ensures good correction of both chromatic and spherical aberration across the entire field of view. All optical surfaces are equipped with multi-layer anti-reflection coatings, which minimise unwanted reflections, ghosting and halos. The result is a sharp, high-contrast and bright image with accurate colour rendition. Light transmission is maximised, which is especially appreciated when observing faint objects or subtle planetary details.
Compatibility and magnification
The 1.25″ (31.75mm) barrel diameter is the most widely used standard worldwide, making this eyepiece fully compatible with the vast majority of refractors, reflectors and catadioptric telescopes available on the market. The 6mm focal length is well suited to telescopes with a focal length in the range of approximately 600 to 1500mm, where it delivers magnifications in the order of 100x to 250x.
When used with telescopes of shorter focal length, it is recommended to verify compatibility with regard to the exit pupil, which at a 6mm focal length works out to approximately 0.5-0.8mm depending on the focal ratio of the instrument.
