Omegon Binoviewer 1.25″ - binocular attachment for your telescope
Observing the night sky with only one eye works, but it is far from ideal. The human brain is naturally wired to process images from both eyes simultaneously - and that is exactly what the Omegon Binoviewer 1.25″ makes possible. The result is noticeably more comfortable viewing, a more natural sense of depth, and an overall richer experience - whether you are studying the surface of the Moon, planetary details, or bright deep-sky objects. If you have only ever observed with one eye, this is a change that will genuinely surprise you.
How it works
The principle is elegantly simple. You insert the binoviewer into your telescope's 1.25″ focuser, then place a matching pair of eyepieces (also 1.25″) into its two output tubes. The interpupillary distance - IPD - can be continuously adjusted between 55 and 75 mm, just as intuitively as on a standard pair of binoculars: simply move the two tubes closer together or further apart to suit your anatomy. It is important to always use two identical eyepieces so that the image in both eyes is exactly the same. Each eyepiece can also be focused individually, which is especially useful if your eyes have different dioptre corrections.
Optics and image quality
The optics of the binoviewer are treated with multi-layer anti-reflection coatings (multiple coating), which minimise light loss and suppress stray reflections. This is particularly important in a binoviewer, since the light path is split between two channels - high-quality coatings ensure that the image remains contrasty and sharp. The attachment does not alter the orientation of the image, so what you see corresponds to reality without any additional flipping.
Build quality and included accessories
A ring clamp provides a secure and reliable hold in the focuser with no risk of slipping or falling - at a total weight of 600 g with two eyepieces attached, relying on friction alone would be unwise. The package includes a carrying case, so the binoviewer is always safely stored and protected from dust and mechanical damage, whether you are taking it out to a star party or keeping it at home.
Compatibility
The binoviewer is designed for telescopes with a 1.25″ focuser, which is the completely standard size found on the vast majority of astronomical telescopes on the market today. If your telescope has a 2″ focuser, you will need an adapter - but with a 1.25″ focuser you are ready to observe straight away.
