Bresser AR 102/600 Messier Nano AZ refractor telescope + solar filter

Bresser is one of the longest-established manufacturers of astronomical optics, and their Messier series is the best proof of that reputation. This achromatic refractor with a 102 mm objective lens and 600 mm focal length delivers remarkable performance at a reasonable price - and, importantly, the system is designed to grow with you. If you are looking for your first real telescope that will not bore you after six months, this is the right choice.

Optics

The AC 102/600 optical system is an achromatic doublet with multi-coated anti-reflection coatings that significantly reduce light loss and unwanted reflections. The f/5.9 focal ratio makes it a versatile instrument - fast enough for observing nebulae and star clusters, yet precise enough for detail on the Moon and planets.

The angular resolution of 1.3 arcseconds is a very solid figure for a 102 mm aperture:

  • On the Moon you will resolve craters approximately 2-3 km in diameter
  • The Orion Nebula will reveal its inner structures
  • Bright planets such as Jupiter and Saturn will show clearly visible belts and rings

Magnification can be selected from 23x up to the recommended maximum of 200x. The telescope uses the standard 31.7 mm (1.25″) eyepiece diameter, making it fully compatible with the wide range of accessories available on the market. A 6x30 mm finder scope is also included for quick object acquisition.

Hexafoc focuser

Compared to older versions, this model features an improved Hexafoc focuser. The six-sided barrel design minimises rotation and wobble of the eyepiece during focusing - a feature especially appreciated by those who want to use the telescope for lunar photography or attach heavier wide-field eyepieces.

Nano AZ mount and tripod

The single-arm Nano AZ altazimuth mount is designed as a practical balance between ease of use and load capacity. Movement on both axes is smooth and intuitive - the mount operates similarly to a photographic tripod, so no prior astronomical experience is required.

  • Load capacity of 3.5 kg handles the AR 102/600 tube with headroom to spare
  • Accepts any tube with a Vixen-compatible dovetail rail, making a future tube upgrade straightforward
  • Stainless steel tripod provides stability and resistance to outdoor moisture
  • Adjustable height for comfortable observing in various positions

Included solar filter

The included solar filter extends the telescope's capabilities to safe solar observation. The filter fits over the front of the tube and reduces sunlight to a safe level, allowing you to observe sunspots and photospheric granulation. This is a welcome bonus that would otherwise mean an additional purchase.

Who is this telescope for?

The Bresser Messier AR 102/600 Nano AZ is an ideal choice for anyone looking to step up from binoculars or a small refractor to a genuine astronomical instrument. The short, lightweight tube travels easily to a dark observing site, the Nano AZ mount requires no polar alignment or electronics, and the solar filter enables daytime astronomy as well. The 10-year warranty speaks for itself - Bresser stands behind their product for the long term.

About Bresser

Bresser is a German company with over 60 years of experience in optical instruments. The Messier series was designed from the outset with expandability in mind: the same tube can be transferred to a sturdier equatorial mount at any time, a motor drive can be added, or a camera can be attached. Bresser does not design dead ends - investing in one of their telescopes is an investment in a system that will grow alongside your astronomical ambitions.

Carefully crafted optics, metal components where rigidity matters, and a long warranty period are concrete expressions of the manufacturer's philosophy: a good instrument is meant to be used for years, not months.
