Celestron AC 70/400 Travel Scope 70 - travel telescope
Looking for a telescope that fits in a backpack without sacrificing optical performance? The Celestron Travel Scope 70 is a compact travel telescope that combines solid construction, quality glass optics and a surprisingly low weight of just 1.5 kg - so you can take it anywhere without feeling it on your back. It is an ideal instrument for beginner astronomers as well as experienced observers who want to have something reliable always at hand.
Optics and performance
At the heart of the telescope is a 70mm achromatic refractor with a focal length of 400 mm, corresponding to a focal ratio of f/5.7. All optical elements are made exclusively from glass - no plastic lenses that would degrade the image. The set includes two 1.25″ eyepieces:
- 20 mm eyepiece - provides 20x magnification for wide-field overview observations
- 10 mm eyepiece - provides 40x magnification for closer views of the Moon's surface or planetary discs
The maximum usable magnification of the refractor reaches 168x, which opens the door to more demanding astronomical objects - lunar craters, Jupiter's moons or Saturn with its rings.
Mount and ease of use
The telescope is equipped with an altazimuth mount with tension adjusters on both axes, allowing smooth and precise pointing at the observed object without any annoying jerks. The fine focus knob makes operating the telescope intuitive even for beginners. The entire setup can be assembled without any tools in just a few minutes - something you will truly appreciate when a gap appears in the clouds and you need to react quickly.
Tripod and accessories
Included in the set is an aluminium tripod with a universal thread that allows you to mount not only the telescope itself, but also a camera or camcorder. If astrophotography or nature photography interests you, the foundation is right there in the box. And to make transport as convenient as possible, Celestron includes a branded backpack in which the entire set fits comfortably and is ready for the road.
Where will this telescope serve you best?
This telescope excels wherever mobility matters - on holiday, hiking, an expedition or simply a spontaneous trip out of the city to a dark sky site. It performs excellently for observing the Moon, planets and brighter deep-sky objects, as well as for terrestrial observation of nature, birds or landscapes.
Thanks to the standard 1.25″ eyepiece barrel diameter, it is fully compatible with a wide range of accessories. Whenever you are ready, you can upgrade with better eyepieces, a Barlow lens or a filter to further extend the telescope's performance.
