Omegon Cronus WA 2.5mm 60° 1.25″ eyepiece
Some moments stay with you for a lifetime - your first glimpse of Saturn's rings, spotting the Great Red Spot on Jupiter, or those quiet nights spent at the eyepiece with a crisp, sharp view. The Omegon Cronus WA 2.5mm was designed to make more of those moments possible. With its short focal length for high magnification, it is ideal for detailed observation of planets and double stars - and thanks to its thoughtfully engineered optical design, it retains all the comfort you expect from a modern eyepiece.
Key features
60° wide apparent field of view
Compared to classic Kellner eyepieces, the 60° wide field of view gives you up to one third more of the sky in a single look. At a focal length of 2.5mm, this means that even at high magnification you keep the object in a reasonable context of the surrounding field - planets do not disappear from view the moment the telescope shifts slightly.
Fully multi-coated optics
Anti-reflection coatings are applied to every air-to-glass surface. This suppresses unwanted reflections and significantly increases both contrast and light transmission. The result is an image with fine detail and faithful reproduction of brightness.
16mm eye relief for comfortable viewing
A 16mm eye relief is an above-average value for an eyepiece with such a short focal length. You do not need to press your eye right up against the lens, making observing comfortable even during longer sessions. The rubber eyecup is foldable, so eyeglass wearers can easily adjust the eye distance and see the complete field of view without dark vignetting at the edges.
Minimal kidney bean effect
One of the most common problems with budget eyepieces is the so-called kidney bean effect - dark shadows that appear when your eye moves slightly off axis and interrupt the view. The Cronus series is virtually free of this issue. The optical group has been optimised to keep the image clean even when the eye is positioned slightly away from the ideal point. For beginners who are still getting used to working at a telescope this is a great relief - but experienced observers will appreciate it just as much during a long, tiring night session.
What can you observe with the Cronus WA 2.5mm?
At 2.5mm focal length, the Cronus WA is made for planetary observing with longer focal length telescopes. With sufficient aperture and good seeing you can clearly make out:
- Jupiter's Great Red Spot, cloud bands, and the four Galilean moons
- Saturn's ring structure, including the Cassini Division
- Fine details on the Moon's surface
- Close double stars at the limit of resolution
Thanks to the standard 1.25″ filter thread, you can easily attach a planetary filter to boost the contrast of specific details. The eyepiece is also compatible with binocular viewers, opening up the possibility of relaxed two-eyed observing.
Part of a complete eyepiece series
The Cronus WA is available in eight different focal lengths, with the shorter values spaced in very fine steps for precise magnification tuning. Owning a complete set from a single series gives you consistent optical quality, unified ergonomics, and easier orientation during night sessions. Once you get used to the Cronus, you will instinctively know what to expect from every member of the range.
