Omegon Newton low-profile Crayford focuser 2″ dual speed 1:11

If you are looking for a focuser that genuinely solves the problems typical of Newtonian telescopes, you have come to the right place. The Omegon low-profile Crayford focuser 2″ with 1:11 dual speed combines a well-thought-out mechanical design, high load capacity and smooth focusing into one elegant unit. It is designed for astronomers who refuse to compromise - whether they are observing planets visually or imaging deep sky objects with a heavy CCD camera.

Low-profile design - no more focus travel problems

One of the most common issues with standard focusers on Newtonian telescopes is insufficient focus travel - the focuser simply cannot reach the focal point. Omegon solves this problem elegantly: the total height of the focuser is only 48 mm, and the optical path length is also 48 mm. This eliminates the need for additional reducers or adapters just to achieve focus. And if you do need more back focus distance - for example when using flatteners or cameras with a deeper body - you can simply extend the built-in extension tube. The total drawtube travel is 22 + 43 mm, giving you a comfortable margin for various accessory configurations.

Bearing system - smooth and stable under load

The classic Crayford focuser is popular for its smooth action and lack of gearing, but it has one well-known weakness: under load, it tends to slip from its position. Omegon addresses this with its "Bearing Type" system. The inner drawtube is guided by eight large roller bearings that hold it firmly in place while still allowing exceptionally smooth movement. An additional rack mechanism prevents unwanted slippage even under load - a feature that every astrophotographer who has ever lost focus due to the weight of a camera will truly appreciate.

Quality craftsmanship in every detail

The entire focuser is built with attention to detail: the outer surface has a black anodized finish, and the interior of the drawtube is matte black with machined grooves to suppress unwanted light reflections. The result is not only a functional instrument but also a visually attractive one that looks great on any premium telescope.

Dual speed with 1:11 planetary gear - precision for astrophotography

The dual speed focusing mechanism with a 1:11 reduction ratio is a key advantage for astrophotographers. The coarse movement allows fast initial positioning, while the fine focusing with a 1:11 reduction enables incremental adjustments of approximately 1/10 mm. When searching for the optimal focus point - for example when using a Bahtinov mask or star analysis software - this level of precision is absolutely invaluable. The difference between a "nearly sharp" and a "perfectly sharp" image starts right here.

8 kg load capacity - ready for demanding imaging setups

A modern astrophotography setup can be surprisingly heavy: a DSLR or CCD camera, an off-axis guider, a filter wheel - it all adds up quickly to several kilograms. The Omegon Crayford dual speed handles a load of up to 8 kg, so you do not need to worry even with demanding accessory combinations.

The eyepiece or camera is secured using a compression ring clamp for both 1.25″ and 2″ diameters - without any risk of scratching the accessory barrel, as can happen with conventional thumbscrews. For astrophotography, a locking screw is also provided to fix the focusing mechanism. One important detail: the screw locks only the mechanism, not the drawtube itself. The drawtube therefore remains free of pressure, and the focuser stays precisely centered.

Wide compatibility with Newtonian telescopes

The base plate of the focuser has no fixed radius of curvature - this is an intentional design decision. As a result, the focuser is compatible with a wide range of Newtonian telescopes with an aperture of 200 mm and above. Installation is straightforward thanks to the standard 80 mm bolt circle.

About Omegon

Omegon is a brand created with a clear mission: to offer astronomers quality optics and accessories at a reasonable price, without unnecessary compromises in construction. The Crayford dual speed focuser is a good example of this philosophy - every detail, from the roller bearings and the locking mechanism to the low-profile solution, shows that the designers themselves work with telescopes and understand what matters to astronomers in practice. Omegon also offers a wide ecosystem of compatible accessories, so the focuser integrates easily into your existing setup and can be expanded further as needed.
