Omegon SC Hybrid Crayford 2″ dual speed 1:10 focuser
If you photograph or observe through a Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, you know the frustration all too well: you focus carefully, then find that the primary mirror shifted by a fraction of a millimeter at the last turn of the knob - and the image is blurry again. This "mirror shift" is a classic problem with SC telescopes, and the Omegon SC Hybrid Crayford 2″ dual speed 1:10 focuser is its elegant solution. Coarse focusing is still handled by the standard mirror knob, but the final - and truly critical - fine adjustment is taken over by this focuser, with a precision that will satisfy both astrophotographers and visual observers.
Bearing-type Crayford design - a step beyond the standard
The classic Crayford focuser is popular for its smooth, backlash-free movement. Omegon went further and developed a so-called "bearing type" Crayford. The inner drawtube is supported by 8 oversized cylindrical bearings that keep it precisely centered and prevent any rotation or axial shift. This is a significant advantage over standard Crayford focusers, where the drawtube can drift slightly under load. In addition, a toothed wheel with a pin ensures that the drawtube stays firmly in the set position and does not slip under the weight of attached accessories - even at full extension.
Smooth movement and reliable locking
The drawtube movement is genuinely silky smooth throughout the full 25 mm of travel. Rubber-reinforced and finely knurled focusing wheels offer a pleasant feel and reliable grip even when wearing winter gloves. The locking screw can firmly fix the entire focusing mechanism for imaging sessions - without clamping the drawtube from the side, so neither the centering accuracy nor the focuser mechanics are compromised.
Dual speed 1:10 ratio for precise focus control
Dual-speed focusing with a 1:10 ratio is almost essential for astrophotography. When working with live view on a laptop or with planetary cameras, a single millimeter of drawtube movement can make an enormous difference in sharpness. The fine wheel with a 1:10 reduction gives you complete control even under these demanding conditions - allowing you to focus precisely on a specific layer of Jupiter's atmosphere or a delicate structure in a star cluster without overshooting.
High load capacity and rotating drawtube
Astrophotography rigs can be heavy - a large CCD or CMOS camera, an off-axis guider, or a heavier 2″ eyepiece. The Omegon SC Hybrid Crayford handles such setups with ease, with a load capacity of up to 8 kg in a fixed, vertical position. The rotating drawtube is a practical bonus: by rotating it you can easily adjust the composition of your shot without rearranging the entire setup. Standard accessories in the 1.25″ to 2″ range connect directly.
Direct SC thread connection - fits in minutes
The focuser connects directly to the standard SC (Schmidt-Cassegrain) thread, so it can be mounted on any SC telescope - Celestron, Meade, Sky-Watcher and others - without any adapters. The entire installation takes just a few minutes. The focuser is part of the Pro series and features a black anodized construction.
