TS Optics Short T2 Helical & Adapter - compact micro focuser

Looking for a compact and reliable solution for fine focusing in astrophotography or visual observation? The TS Optics Short T2 Helical & Adapter micro focuser is designed precisely for situations where the coarse focusing of your telescope's main focuser is not enough and you need to make a final, precise focus correction without any vibrations. Thanks to its compact design and universal T2 interface on both sides, it is an excellent addition to a wide range of telescopes and optical accessories.

How the helical focuser works

The helical focuser works on the principle of a helical motion - rotating the barrel produces smooth and very fine movement along the optical axis. This principle is particularly popular in astrophotography because, unlike a classic rack-and-pinion focuser, it does not introduce lateral forces into the system and the resulting movement is completely backlash-free. The result is smooth and precise focusing without unwanted vibrations that could ruin an exposure or the visual impression.

The minimum optical length of the unit is 18 mm, making it one of the most compact solutions of its kind - an ideal choice wherever every millimeter of focal distance matters.

T2 connection on both sides

The focuser features a T2 thread on both the camera side and the telescope side, offering maximum flexibility when assembling your optical train. The standard T2 thread (M42x0.75) is today the de facto industry standard in astronomy and camera equipment, so this focuser can be easily integrated into any setup - between the telescope and camera, between a flattener and camera, or between a reducer and focuser. The symmetrical T2 connection eliminates compatibility concerns, and the adapter can be combined with any T2 components from different manufacturers.

Who is this micro focuser for?

This micro focuser is an ideal tool for photographers and visual observers who work with a short focal length or fast telescope, where the depth of field is very shallow and any inaccuracy immediately shows in the final image. It is also suitable as:

  • A secondary focuser in setups where the main focuser does not have sufficiently fine movement
  • A practical adapter for more precise camera positioning along the optical axis
  • A field tool for detailed imaging of planets, the Moon, or double stars, where every detail counts

Summary

Overall, this is a small but very practical accessory that will significantly improve the comfort of working with your telescope and help you get the most out of your optics - whether visually or photographically. A precise T2 helical focuser of this type is a popular choice among experienced astronomers for its simplicity, reliability, and zero backlash in movement.
