Omegon Pro APO 85/560 ED Triplet OTA - apochromatic refractor
Are you looking for a compact yet optically outstanding refractor that can handle both visual planetary observation and demanding astrophotography of nebulae and galaxies? The Omegon Pro APO 85/560 ED Triplet apochromatic refractor is exactly what you need. The air-gap triplet lens made from Japanese Ohara FPL-53 glass delivers perfectly corrected chromatic aberration and produces sharp, high-contrast, color-accurate images - from the center of the field all the way to its very edges.
Air-gap triplet optics with Ohara FPL-53 glass
At the heart of this telescope is an air-gap apochromatic triplet lens made from Ohara FPL-53 glass - one of the finest ED glasses available on the market. Thanks to this design, chromatic aberration is suppressed to an absolute minimum, so stars in images appear as perfect point sources of light with no color fringing. Compared to classical reflector systems, a refractor has no central obstruction, which negatively affects the intensity distribution in the Airy disk - the result is significantly better contrast and resolution of fine detail, especially during planetary and double star observation under low-contrast conditions. The maximum usable magnification reaches 170x at a focal ratio of f/6.6.
Precision focuser for astrophotography
Precise focusing is absolutely critical for astrophotography, and the Omegon Pro APO 85/560 does not disappoint. The tube is equipped with a 2″ hybrid focuser combining the principles of a Crayford and a rack-and-pinion mechanism - this combination provides a load capacity of up to 6 kg while maintaining smooth, backlash-free movement thanks to ball bearings. Dual-speed 1:10 micro-focusing enables exceptionally fine focus adjustment, which anyone who has ever struggled with overshooting the focus point during a demanding deep-sky shot will truly appreciate.

The focuser is fully rotatable for comfortable positioning of a camera or eyepieces. A 2″ to 1.25″ reducer with a filter thread is included.
CNC-machined tube construction
The tube is CNC-machined from metal and its interior is lined with a velvety black material to suppress unwanted internal reflections. The retractable dew shield with a length of 134 mm protects the front lens from moisture and stray light. The total tube length is just 440 mm (515 mm with the dew shield extended) and the diameter is 110 mm. The tube is supplied with CNC mounting rings - the entire system feels robust and precisely engineered.
Compact and portable - ready for travel
The compact dimensions and included aluminium carrying case make this apochromat an ideal companion for astronomy trips - whether you are heading to the Namibian desert, the Alpine highlands, or simply a dark hilltop outside the city. A weight under 4.2 kg and a length of just 44 cm mean the telescope fits comfortably in a car boot or even carry-on luggage. That is an advantage you simply do not have with larger instruments.
Who is this telescope for?
This refractor is designed for advanced astronomers and astrophotographers - beginners are better served by less specialized instruments. It is suitable for observing and imaging:
- The Moon and planets
- Star clusters
- Nebulae and galaxies
- Double stars
Solar observation is possible only with an appropriate solar filter. The instrument is supplied as an OTA (Optical Tube Assembly) without a mount - for astrophotography, a stable equatorial mount with sufficient load capacity is recommended.
