TS Optics APO 5x 1.25″ Barlow Lens

The TS Optics APO 5x Barlow lens is an outstanding optical accessory for amateur astronomers who want high magnification without buying expensive short focal length eyepieces. Short focal length eyepieces are often costly or offer very little eye relief, making long observing sessions uncomfortable. This Barlow lens solves both problems in one affordable, well-built package - suitable for visual use and astrophotography alike.

Five Times the Magnification - One Barlow Lens

A 5x Barlow lens transforms your existing eyepieces into far more powerful ones. For example, a standard 25 mm Plössl eyepiece becomes the equivalent of a 5 mm eyepiece - while keeping the comfortable eye relief of the longer eyepiece. This makes extended sessions observing the Moon and planets much more enjoyable. You get high magnification without investing in a whole set of specialised short focal length eyepieces.

Excellent Choice for Planetary Astrophotography

For planetary photography - including webcam imaging - this Barlow lens is a significantly better option than eyepiece projection. Eyepiece projection can deliver high magnification, but sharpness across the full image field is often limited. The TS Optics APO 5x provides uniform sharpness across the entire field of view, which is essential for capturing planetary detail. Experience shows that the ideal effective focal ratio for planetary imaging is around f/25 to f/30. This Barlow lens reaches that range in combination with most Newton telescopes.

Apochromatic Optical Design

The lens uses a three-element apochromatic design with air spacing between the elements. This construction gives excellent correction of chromatic aberration - colour fringing is minimised even at five times magnification. All optical surfaces carry full multi-coating (FMC) to maximise light transmission and deliver a bright, high-contrast image. The lens edges are blackened to suppress internal reflections and stray light that would otherwise reduce image quality.

Solid Metal Construction

The entire mechanical body is made from metal, ensuring durability and precise optical alignment. The lens is secured in the focuser with a precision brass compression ring. This holds the Barlow lens firmly in place without any risk of damage to your eyepiece barrel.

Compatible with All Standard 1.25″ Telescopes

This Barlow lens fits all standard 1.25″ focusers. It is compatible with Newton, refractor, and catadioptric telescopes. One Barlow lens multiplies the capability of your entire eyepiece collection - making it one of the most cost-effective upgrades you can add to your setup.
