Omegon LE Planetary 18mm 55° 1.25″ Eyepiece

The Omegon LE Planetary 18mm eyepiece belongs to a series built around carefully engineered optics that deliver above-average quality for their price range. Its design produces very sharp, high-contrast images - even when used with a more basic telescope. The image stays clean and undistorted all the way to the edge of the field of view.

Optical design

The 18mm model differs slightly from the rest of the series. It uses five optical elements in three groups, while most other focal lengths in the range - 3mm, 5mm, 6mm, 9mm, 12.5mm, and 14.5mm - use seven elements in four groups. All lenses have blackened edges to reduce internal reflections. Every element also features FMC (Fully Multi-Coated) anti-reflection coatings, which minimise reflections and maximise light transmission for brighter, clearer views.

Long eye relief - no need to remove your glasses

The 20mm eye relief is one of the most practically important features of this eyepiece. If you wear glasses, you can keep them on while observing - the eye relief is generous enough to give your eye comfortable access to the full 55° field of view. That wide field provides a spacious, immersive view of the object you are observing.

No blackout effect

This eyepiece has no blackout effect - the field of view does not disappear when your eye moves slightly off-centre. You do not need to keep your eye perfectly aligned with the optical axis. Small head or hand movements will not interrupt your session. The Omegon LE Planetary eyepiece is therefore a great choice not only for experienced observers, but also for beginners who are still learning how to use a telescope. A removable eyecup lets you adjust the eyepiece to suit your individual needs, and a filter thread adds further versatility.

The LE Planetary series is available in seven focal lengths - 3mm, 5mm, 6mm, 9mm, 12.5mm, 14.5mm, and 18mm. This makes it easy to build a complete set of eyepieces covering a wide range of magnifications for different types of observation.
