Omegon Ortho 24mm 48° 1.25″ Eyepiece

A Classic Eyepiece for Planetary Observers

Orthoscopic eyepieces have earned a permanent place in astronomical optics. Experienced planetary observers have relied on them for decades - and for good reason. Their strength is not a wide field of view, but exceptional sharpness and high contrast. These are exactly the qualities that matter most when observing planets.

The Omegon Ortho 24mm delivers a clean, sharp, and contrasty image. You will clearly see the cloud bands on Jupiter, the polar caps on Mars, and the ring system of Saturn. With a 24mm focal length, this eyepiece is ideal for mid-magnification overview observations of planets, as well as double stars and star clusters.

Four-Element Optical Design

The orthoscopic design uses just four optical elements. This simple but well-thought-out construction keeps the number of glass surfaces to a minimum. Fewer surfaces mean fewer unwanted reflections and less light loss. The result is high light transmission and outstanding contrast.

This eyepiece produces a sharp image not only at the centre of the field of view, but all the way to the edge. You get a natural, aberration-free view of celestial objects exactly as they are - no distortion, no false colour.

Fully Multi-Coated Optics

All optical elements carry a full multi-layer anti-reflection coating. This coating suppresses unwanted reflections on every glass surface, increases overall light transmission, and raises image contrast. The view is bright, vivid, and rich in detail - whether you are observing fine structures on planets, splitting close double stars, or exploring star clusters and brighter nebulae.

Comfortable to Use - With or Without Glasses

The eyepiece comes with a soft rubber eye cup. It serves two purposes. First, it blocks stray light from the sides, which would otherwise reduce image contrast. Second, it protects the eyepiece lens from being scratched by spectacle frames.

If you wear glasses, simply fold the eye cup down. You can then observe comfortably without removing your glasses. The build quality is solid throughout. A sturdy dust cap protects the optics during storage and transport.

Standard 1.25″ Fitting with Filter Thread

The eyepiece fits any standard 1.25″ focuser - the most common size on amateur telescopes. The barrel also has a standard 1.25″ filter thread. You can attach any compatible astronomy filter directly to the eyepiece. Planetary filters enhance contrast on Jupiter, Mars, and Saturn. A Moon filter reduces glare and makes lunar observing more comfortable.

Available as a Complete Set

The Omegon Ortho eyepiece series is also available in 10.5mm and 16.8mm focal lengths. All three versions share the same high optical quality and build standard. Together, they form a compact and versatile set covering a wide range of magnifications for all types of visual observation.
