Omegon Super Plössl 20mm 52° 1.25″ eyepiece

Some things stand the test of time - and the Super Plössl eyepiece design is exactly one of them. Generations of amateur astronomers around the world have trusted the Plössl design, and for good reason. The Omegon Super Plössl 20mm eyepiece delivers a sharp, high-contrast and bright image at a price that won't strain your budget - and it outperforms the eyepieces typically bundled with new telescopes.

A wider window to the sky

Standard Kellner eyepieces or basic Plössls usually offer a field of view of around 40-45°, which can feel like peering through a narrow tube. The Super Plössl 20mm offers a 52° apparent field of view - a noticeable difference. The sky opens up like a wide window, allowing you to observe a larger area at once. This is particularly appreciated when viewing star clusters, nebulae, or when watching planets drift slowly across the field.

Optics you can rely on

Image quality doesn't depend on the telescope alone - the eyepiece is an equally important part of the optical chain. All lenses in this eyepiece feature anti-reflection coatings that minimise unwanted reflections and light scatter. The edges of the lenses are also blackened, a detail that cheaper eyepieces often skip. The result is noticeably higher contrast - visible both when observing the faint spiral arms of distant galaxies such as M51, and when viewing bright objects like the Moon or planets, where excessive light scatter reduces fine detail.

Versatile and compatible

The 1.25″ barrel ensures compatibility with the vast majority of telescopes on the market - from refractors and reflectors to catadioptric systems. The 20mm focal length is an excellent choice for medium magnifications, suitable for sweeping views of star clusters and nebulae as well as first looks at planetary discs.

The Omegon Super Plössl range covers focal lengths from 4mm to 40mm, and all eyepieces in the series are parfocal - meaning you won't need to refocus dramatically when switching between focal lengths. At night, under the stars, you'll appreciate this more than you might expect. Rubber fold-down eyecups shield against stray light and allow comfortable viewing even with glasses.
