TeleVue Nagler Zoom 3mm-6mm 50° 1.25″ eyepiece

A flexible zoom eyepiece for serious planetary observation

Are you looking for an eyepiece that gives you maximum flexibility at the telescope without constantly swapping accessories? The TeleVue Nagler Zoom 3-6mm eyepiece is exactly what you need. This compact and precisely made eyepiece covers focal lengths from 3 to 6mm with a smooth rotation of the barrel, while maintaining a constant apparent field of view of 50° across the entire zoom range. This is not a standard feature in zoom eyepieces - and this is where TeleVue shows why it belongs among the very best manufacturers in the world.

Optical and mechanical design

The eyepiece is built around an optical system of 5 elements in 3 groups, with all surfaces fully multi-coated with anti-reflection coatings. The result is excellent light transmission, high contrast, and minimal chromatic aberration - key qualities especially when observing planets, the Moon, or double stars at high magnification. The 10mm eye relief allows comfortable viewing even for users who wear prescription glasses, and a fold-down rubber eye cup makes it easy to adjust to your preference. The eyepiece features a standard 1.25″ filter thread, so planetary, UHC, or OIII filters can be attached without any adapters.

What can you observe with it?

The 3-6mm range makes this eyepiece ideal for high-magnification planetary and lunar observation. On a refractor with a 1000mm focal length, you get magnifications from approximately 167x to 333x - a perfect range for detailed study of Jupiter, Saturn, or the surface of the Moon under good seeing conditions. The smooth zoom is especially useful when searching for the best magnification for current atmospheric conditions: simply rotate and watch the image change, without having to reach into your eyepiece case. The weight of only 150g means the eyepiece will not overload lighter telescopes or cause any balance problems.

Example magnifications on a 1000mm focal length telescope

Focal length setting Magnification (f=1000mm)
6mm 167x
4mm 250x
3mm 333x

About TeleVue - over 40 years of optical excellence

TeleVue is a brand with over 40 years of tradition, founded in 1977 by Al Nagler - an optician and astronomer whose name the entire Nagler series carries. From the beginning, TeleVue has focused exclusively on premium astronomical eyepieces and accessories and has never taken the path of compromise just to reduce production costs. Every eyepiece is made with emphasis on optical perfection, mechanical durability, and long-term reliability.

The Nagler Zoom 3-6mm is clear proof of this: maintaining a constant field of view across the entire zoom range is a technically demanding achievement, reached only by manufacturers working with the highest quality optical glass and strict production controls. If you are looking for an eyepiece that will satisfy you for many years and provide a truly uncompromised observing experience, the TeleVue Nagler Zoom 3-6mm is a choice you will not regret.

Why choose the TeleVue Nagler Zoom 3-6mm?

  • Continuous zoom from 3 to 6mm - no need to swap eyepieces during observation
  • Constant 50° apparent field of view at all zoom settings
  • Full multi-coating on all optical surfaces for maximum light transmission
  • 10mm eye relief - comfortable for eyeglass wearers
