TeleVue Panoptic 27mm 68° 2″ eyepiece

The Panoptic series from TeleVue is a well-established name among amateur astronomers - and for good reason. This 27mm eyepiece with an apparent field of view of 68° offers an excellent balance between low magnification overview and comfortable viewing experience. Whether you are looking for the ideal finder eyepiece for large telescopes or you want the best possible overview when observing open star clusters, nebulae or wide areas of the Milky Way, the Panoptic 27mm will not disappoint.

Optical design and image quality

The TeleVue Panoptic 27mm uses a six-element SWA (Super Wide Angle) design, which provides excellent correction across the entire 68° field of view. All optical surfaces are treated with multi-layer anti-reflection coatings that minimize light loss and suppress unwanted reflections. The result is a sharp, high-contrast image with natural color rendering - exactly what experienced observers expect from TeleVue. The 19mm eye relief is comfortable enough for eyeglass wearers, who can see the entire field of view without any problems.

Practical features

The eyepiece comes with a fold-down rubber eyecup, which allows comfortable adjustment of the eye distance from the lens. The 2″ barrel provides a firm and secure fit in a standard focuser. An important practical feature is the presence of a filter thread - you can easily attach a UHC, OIII or any other 2″ filter without needing additional adapters. The Panoptic series is also parfocal, which means that when switching between different eyepieces in the same series, you do not need to refocus - a great advantage when using multiple eyepieces in one observing session.

Who is this eyepiece for?

The TeleVue Panoptic 27mm is an ideal choice for anyone looking for a reliable and optically excellent eyepiece for wide-field observation. When used with a refractor f/6-f/8 or a Newtonian reflector, you get an excellent overview of the night sky with a pleasant field of view and minimal aberrations. The eyepiece is appreciated by beginners who want a quality foundation for their collection, as well as experienced visual observers with demanding optical requirements. The weight of 465g is standard for the given quality and focal length - before use, it is recommended to check the load capacity of your telescope's focuser.
