Solar filter holder for 130mm Newton telescope - Sky-Watcher
Want to observe the Sun safely with your 130mm Newton telescope? This holder is exactly what you need. It is a precision-made bracket designed to mount onto the front of your telescope tube, providing a firm and reliable base for installing a solar filter - for example, the popular Baader Astro Solar film. The filter itself is not included; the holder is sold separately so you can choose the type and optical density of the film according to your own preferences and observing goals.
How it works
The holder features a pre-cut opening into which the film or other flat solar filter sits simply and securely. This eliminates the need for improvised solutions such as adhesive tape or other makeshift fixes - the filter stays firmly in place even when the telescope is being handled. The design ensures that the filter fully covers the front aperture without any light leaking around the edges, which is absolutely essential for safe solar observation.
Compatibility
The solar filter holder for 130mm Newton telescopes is compatible with the following telescopes:
- Sky-Watcher Newton 130/650
- Sky-Watcher Newton 130/900
- Other 130mm Newton-type reflectors with a matching tube diameter
Solar observation with Baader film
Solar observation is one of the most accessible areas of amateur astronomy - the Sun is available every day and offers a constantly changing surface full of sunspots, faculae, and prominences (when using H-alpha filtration). Combined with a quality Baader film of density ND 3.8 or ND 5.0, this holder gives you a safe solar filter solution for Newton telescopes that allows you to observe the solar disk in visible light with excellent contrast and a sharp image. ND 5.0 film is recommended for visual observation, while ND 3.8 is suitable for photography.
Easy installation
Installation is intuitive and takes no more than a few minutes:
- Slide the holder onto the front section of the telescope tube.
- Insert the cut-to-size Baader film into the prepared opening.
- Start observing.
No tools are required. The whole solution is compact, lightweight, and easy to transport.
Safety notice
Observing the Sun without a certified filter placed over the objective lens is extremely dangerous and can cause permanent eye damage. Never use solar filters positioned at the eyepiece - only a filter mounted over the objective lens guarantees true safety.
