Omegon 1.25″ premium Skylum filter

If you observe the sky from a city or its surroundings, light pollution is probably your biggest enemy. The Omegon Premium Skylum filter in 1.25″ format is designed precisely for such conditions. It is a premium anti-light-pollution filter from the Advanced series, capable of significantly improving the contrast and visibility of astronomical objects - whether you are observing with your own eyes or photographing through a telescope. The aluminium thread ensures reliable and firm attachment to standard eyepieces and camera adapters with a 1.25″ diameter.

How it works

The filter works on the principle of selective blocking of emission lines from sodium and mercury vapour lamps, which form the basis of most light pollution above human settlements. At the same time, it transmits wavelengths important for astronomical observation - especially the H-alpha (656 nm) and H-beta (486 nm) regions, where emission nebulae shine. The result is a noticeably darker sky background and better visibility of faint deep-sky objects. The filter is suitable for both visual and photographic use, making it a valuable addition for astronomers with a wide variety of equipment.

Visual and photographic use

In visual mode, the filter is particularly helpful when observing gaseous nebulae such as the Orion Nebula (M42), the Lagoon Nebula (M8), or planetary nebulae. Photographers will appreciate the increased background contrast, which simplifies post-processing and shortens the exposure time needed to achieve good results. The filter is compatible with DSLR and mirrorless cameras via standard T-adapters, as well as with CCD/CMOS astronomical cameras.

Build quality and compatibility

The aluminium filter body guarantees long service life and resistance to everyday use. The thread is standardised for 1.25″ eyepiece barrels, so mounting takes only a few seconds. Precise optical glass processing without unwanted reflections or chromatic aberrations is a matter of course for a filter from the Advanced series.

The Skylum filter is suitable for all types of telescopes - refractors, reflectors, and catadioptric systems. All you need is a standard 1.25″ thread on your eyepiece or photographic adapter, which today applies to virtually all available accessories on the market.

Who is it for?

The Omegon Premium Skylum filter is an ideal choice for observers and photographers who cannot regularly travel to dark locations far from civilisation. If you observe from a balcony, garden, or urban park, this filter opens up access to objects that would otherwise blend into the brightened background. More experienced astronomers will appreciate its use even at less-than-ideal sites during planetary transits or when documenting emission regions of the Milky Way. A nebula filter for city observation of this calibre is an affordable investment with an immediately visible effect.

About Omegon and the Advanced series

Omegon is a brand with a long tradition in the field of astronomical optics, priding itself on solid craftsmanship and accessibility for a wide range of observers - from beginners to experienced amateur astronomers. The Advanced series represents the upper tier of the portfolio, with emphasis on optical glass quality, precise surface finishing, and mechanical reliability. Thanks to an extensive ecosystem of accessories and compatibility with standard dimensions, users of Omegon filters can be confident that their equipment will grow alongside their experience and expectations. The Skylum filter is simply a practical tool that you will love from the very first night you attach it to your eyepiece.
