Omegon #47 2″ colour filter - violet
Colour filters are an essential part of every visual observer's kit for planetary and lunar observation. The Omegon #47 filter, in its characteristic violet shade, offers an accessible entry point into the world of high-contrast observation - while fully meeting the expectations of those who know exactly what they are looking for. The 2″ thread ensures compatibility with the vast majority of eyepieces on the market, and the aluminium cell guarantees solid build quality without unnecessary added weight.
What does the #47 violet filter do?
Filter #47 transmits wavelengths in the violet and deep blue region of the spectrum. During planetary observation, it significantly increases the contrast of atmospheric details on bodies such as Jupiter and Saturn - specifically by suppressing the red and yellow components of light, making clouds, belts, and other structures stand out more clearly. On the Moon, it helps tame brightness and adds contrast when working with larger apertures.
This filter is intended exclusively for visual use - it is not primarily designed for photography, and applications such as light pollution reduction or the observation of nebulae and comets are not its strong suit.
Design and compatibility
The Omegon #47 2″ visual colour filter features a standard 2″ aluminium thread that screws directly into any eyepiece with a matching thread. Installation takes only a few seconds and requires no adapters or tools. The aluminium cell is resistant to everyday field use while adding virtually no extra weight to your eyepiece.
Part of the Basic filter range
This filter is part of the Basic range, designed to deliver reliable performance at a reasonable price. For astronomers who are just starting to build a colour filter set, the #47 is a natural addition alongside the yellow (#12), orange (#21), or green (#56) filter - together they form a complete set for planetary observation.
