Whether you are an astronomer, photographer, or naturalist, dust and tiny particles on optical surfaces are an everyday challenge. The blower allows you to quickly and gently remove dust, pollen, and fine particles from lenses, mirrors, and filters - without ever touching the optical surface. This is a critical advantage over wiping with a cloth, which can cause microscopic scratches that gradually degrade image quality. An air blower...

Omegon #56 light green filter 2″

Color filters are one of the simplest and most effective tools for getting the most out of visual planetary observation. The Omegon #56 in light green belongs to the Basic series and is designed to be accessible to every observer - from beginners to experienced planetary visual observers. The filter transmits light in the green part of the spectrum, selectively increasing the contrast of specific surface and atmospheric details when viewed through the eyepiece.

What planets does the Omegon #56 filter work best with?

Filter #56 (light green) is most commonly used when observing Mars, Jupiter and Saturn:

  • Mars - helps distinguish bright desert regions from darker surface features and enhances polar ice caps.
  • Jupiter - deepens the contrast of dark equatorial belts and allows you to follow fine structures in the atmosphere.
  • Saturn - contributes to better resolution of banding across the planetary disk.

Green filters have a mild light-reducing effect, making them comfortable to use with larger telescopes where the planetary disk can be overly bright. This filter is intended exclusively for visual use - it is not primarily designed for photography or CCD imaging.

Construction and compatibility

The Omegon #56 2″ filter is mounted in a sturdy aluminum cell with a standard 2″ thread, so it screws easily into eyepieces or filter drawer adapters. Aluminum ensures low weight while maintaining sufficient rigidity and resistance to mechanical damage. The thread is precisely machined - the filter sits firmly without play and does not loosen even during fieldwork on cold nights.

The filter is compatible with:

  • Refractors, reflectors and catadioptric telescopes
  • All eyepieces and accessories with a standard 2″ thread

Filter #56 can be usefully combined with other color filters - for example orange #21 or blue #80A - for comparative observation and studying different contrast effects on planetary disks.

Omegon Basic series

The Basic series from Omegon offers solid optical glass quality at an affordable price - an ideal choice for anyone who wants to start with color filtration without a high initial investment. If you are building a set of color filters, light green is one of the essential colors that should not be missing from the collection.
