Omegon #80A 2″ colour filter, blue

Colour filters are among the simplest yet most effective tools for visual planetary observation. The Omegon #80A in light blue belongs to the classic range of colour filters designated according to the Wratten standard, and it is a popular choice for observers who want to get the most out of their telescope when viewing the bright planets of the solar system.

How the #80A blue filter works

The blue colour of the #80A filter transmits blue components of the spectrum while suppressing red and yellow tones. When observing Jupiter, this results in a noticeable enhancement of cloud belts, atmospheric details and the Great Red Spot in contrast to the brighter zones. On Saturn, the filter helps to distinguish atmospheric structures and emphasise differences in the brightness of the rings.

The filter is designed exclusively for visual planetary observation through a telescope - it is not intended for photographic use, and this area is marked as not applicable in the specifications table.

Construction and compatibility

The filter frame is made from aluminium, which provides sufficient rigidity, resistance to deformation and low weight at the same time. The thread conforms to the standard 2″ specification, so the filter screws easily into a standard eyepiece drawtube or directly into eyepieces with a 2″ thread. No adapters are required - the filter is compatible with any eyepiece or drawtube with a standard 2″ thread, making it suitable for most mid-size and larger amateur telescopes.

Omegon Basic series

The filter belongs to the Omegon Basic series, which is aimed at observers looking for solid optical accessories at a reasonable price without unnecessary compromises in build quality. Omegon is a brand with a long tradition in astronomical optics and accessories, having built a strong reputation through a focus on practicality, accessibility and reliable craftsmanship. The Omegon Basic range offers a wide selection of optical accessories for astronomers of all levels - from beginners to experienced visual observers and astrophotographers.

Who is this filter for?

The Omegon #80A 2″ colour filter is particularly well suited to planetary observers using telescopes from approximately 80 mm aperture and above, who want to improve contrast and reveal fine atmospheric details during visual observation. It is not a filter for nebulae or photography - its strength lies purely in visual planetary use, where it can make a real difference.

If you already have experience observing Jupiter or Saturn and want to take your sessions to the next level, this filter is a logical and affordable step forward for visual planetary observers.
