Sky-Watcher Dual White/Red LED Flashlight with Variable... Sky-Watcher Dual White/Red LED Flashlight with Variable Dimming The Sky-Watcher Dual White/Red LED flashlight is an absolutely indispensable tool for every observer, featuring 2 LED diodes with switchable white and red light modes and continuously variable brightness control. This versatile flashlight handles all your nighttime astronomy needs - illuminating star charts, selecting and changing eyepieces, making equipment adjustments, and navigating your observing site. The red light mode preserves your carefully acquired dark adaptation, preventing the pupil constriction that white light causes. This is critical when observing faint deep-sky objects where even brief exposure to white light can destroy 20-30 minutes...

Omegon OIII filter 1.25″

If you are fascinated by emission and planetary nebulae, the Omegon OIII filter is the tool that will open the door to a world that has remained hidden until now. This narrowband filter is designed to transmit only a very narrow range of wavelengths corresponding to the radiation of doubly ionized oxygen (O III, approximately 496 nm and 501 nm), achieving a dramatic increase in contrast between the observed object and the sky background.

How does the OIII filter work?

Unlike broadband or UHC filters, which transmit a wider range of wavelengths, the OIII filter goes even further - it restricts the transmitted light to a truly narrow band around the oxygen emission lines. This means that most unwanted light - whether from urban light pollution or the natural glow of the night sky background - is effectively suppressed. The result is a noticeably darker background and more prominently glowing nebulae that would otherwise blend into their surroundings or remain invisible altogether.

Importantly, the benefit of this filter is visible not only under light-polluted skies but also at genuinely dark sites, where contrast still increases considerably.

What can you observe with the OIII filter?

The OIII filter is ideal for observing planetary nebulae, emission nebulae and extremely faint objects whose radiation is produced by the emission lines of ionized oxygen. The classic and most frequently cited example is the Veil Nebula (NGC 6992 / NGC 6960) in the constellation Cygnus - an object that is practically invisible to many observers without an OIII filter, but with it becomes one of the most impressive sights in the night sky.

The filter also performs excellently on objects such as:

  • Helix Nebula (NGC 7293)
  • Blinking Planetary (NGC 6826)
  • Crescent Nebula (NGC 6888)

When is the OIII filter not the right choice?

It is important to note that the OIII filter is not a universal solution. Objects whose radiation does not include O III emission - such as open star clusters, galaxies or most reflection nebulae - cannot be observed meaningfully with this filter. For these objects, filters with a wider passband or no filter at all remain more suitable. However, using the OIII filter correctly where it makes sense delivers results that cannot be replicated by any other means.

About the Omegon brand

Omegon is a brand created by astronomers for astronomers, focusing on optical quality and the availability of a wide range of astronomical accessories. Omegon filters are manufactured with emphasis on precise passband definition and high-quality anti-reflection coatings that minimize unwanted reflections and light loss outside the required wavelengths.

Whether you are a beginner observer or an experienced amateur astronomer with a well-equipped observatory, the Omegon OIII filter 1.25″ is a reliable and affordable tool that will take your nebula observing to a new level.
