Omegon Guiderscope 50/180 1.25″ Finderscope-Guider

Not every telescope can carry a large finderscope with two heavy mounting rings. Smaller telescopes and instruments on lightweight mounts have weight limits that must be respected. The Omegon Guiderscope is designed precisely for these situations. This miniature guiding telescope slides directly into the standard finder shoe of your telescope. Within seconds, you are ready to photograph nebulae and galaxies - no complex assembly required.

Compact Guiding Telescope for Astrophotography

The Omegon Guiderscope features an achromatic optical design with a 50mm lens and a focal length of 175-180mm. This combination delivers a sufficiently bright image to capture the guide stars needed for accurate autoguiding during long exposures.

Modern autoguider cameras are highly sensitive and do not require a large, heavy guiding telescope. Shorter focal lengths also work very efficiently with autoguiders and reduce the risk of overcorrection.

Universal Compatibility

The Omegon Guiderscope fits any standard Synta or Vixen finder shoe, which is found on the vast majority of telescopes available today. The eyepiece-side connection uses the standard 1.25″ diameter, so you can attach virtually any autoguider camera or standard 1.25″ eyepiece accessories. The whole setup takes only a few seconds and requires no tools.

The guiding telescope is suitable for use with main telescopes up to approximately 1,500mm focal length.

Simple Three-Screw Alignment

Like a classic finderscope, the Omegon Guiderscope has three adjustment screws. These allow you to align it with your main telescope and point it precisely at a suitable guide star within the field of view. The adjustment is intuitive and fast - even a complete beginner will have no difficulty. Accurate alignment with a bright star is essential for guiding quality, and the three-screw system makes this straightforward.

Doubles as a Standard Finderscope

The Omegon Guiderscope is not only a guiding telescope. When you are not imaging, simply insert a standard eyepiece or a reticle eyepiece into the 1.25″ opening and use it as a regular finderscope for locating astronomical objects. This dual functionality makes it a highly practical accessory for both visual observers and astrophotographers who appreciate simplicity and a compact form factor.

The total weight of the guiderscope is approximately 450g, so it places no significant load even on the smallest mounts.

Focuser and Back-Focus Adjustment

Different autoguider cameras have different back-focus distances. The Omegon Guiderscope is designed with sufficient back-focus travel to accommodate this. Coarse focus adjustment is achieved using one or two extension rings (product no. 33231). For a reproducible focus position, the use of a locking ring (product no. 45773) is recommended. Fine focus correction is made using the adjustment ring on the objective side, allowing precise tuning without moving the entire assembly.

Who Is This Guiderscope For?

The Omegon Guiderscope 50/180 is the ideal solution for astrophotographers who want a lightweight, compact and easy-to-use guiding telescope. It saves you time during setup and, thanks to its universal compatibility, suits the great majority of telescopes on the market. If you want to start guided astrophotography without unnecessarily complex equipment, this compact guider is the right choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Omegon Guiderscope fit my telescope?

If your telescope has a standard Synta or Vixen finder shoe, the Omegon Guiderscope will fit without any modification. This type of finder shoe is found on most telescopes sold today, including telescopes from Sky-Watcher, Bresser and many other brands.

Which autoguider cameras are compatible?

Any autoguider camera with a standard 1.25″ nosepiece will connect directly. This includes popular models such as the ZWO ASI120MM Mini and similar compact guide cameras. Extension rings may be needed to achieve correct focus depending on the camera's back-focus distance.

Can I use a regular eyepiece with this guiderscope?

Yes. The 1.25″ opening accepts standard eyepieces, so you can use the Omegon Guiderscope as a conventional finderscope whenever you are not imaging.

Is this guiderscope suitable for beginners?

Yes. The three-screw alignment system is straightforward and the tool-free installation into the finder shoe means beginners can set it up quickly without prior experience.
