Omegon Cassegrain Pro CC 154/1848 OTA astronomical telescope
Looking for a telescope that performs equally well for visual planetary observation and demanding astrophotography of nebulae and galaxies? The Omegon Cassegrain Pro CC 154/1848 OTA is exactly that choice. This compact yet optically outstanding tube from the Pro CC series combines a precise Cassegrain design with carefully manufactured mirrors and a sophisticated internal tube layout - all aimed at achieving maximum contrast and image sharpness.
Optics and light collection
The Cassegrain telescope with a 154 mm aperture and a focal length of 1848 mm offers a focal ratio of f/12, which is ideal for planetary observation and imaging of objects with high resolution requirements. The primary mirror has a parabolic shape with minimal thermal expansion and is coated with highly reflective layers achieving 94% reflectivity - for the 154 mm aperture, BK-7/HK9L glass is used. The secondary mirror has a hyperbolic profile, which minimises the central obstruction of the tube, directly resulting in higher contrast in the final image.
The inner walls of the tube are fitted with circular baffles that suppress stray light reflections, so even when observing bright planets you get a sharp, high-contrast image free from distracting glare.
Performance and resolving power
A resolving power of 0.91 arcseconds and a limiting stellar magnitude of 14.1 mag place this telescope high among instruments for advanced astronomers. The light-collecting area is equivalent to 472 times that of the human eye - in other words, you will be able to see objects that are completely invisible to the naked eye. Maximum useful magnification reaches 300x, and the Cassegrain design naturally suppresses chromatic aberration thanks to its long focal length - an issue that refractors must address at considerable cost.
Tube construction and focuser
The tube is fully enclosed (full tube) with a length of only 540 mm and a diameter of 191 mm - for a focal length of over 1800 mm, these are remarkably compact dimensions, typical of the Cassegrain optical system with its folded light path. A weight of 6 kg allows use with a range of medium-capacity mounts. The Crayford-type focuser provides smooth, backlash-free focusing and accepts accessories in the standard 2″ format, so compatibility with eyepieces and cameras is not an issue.
OTA - choose your own mount
The telescope is supplied as an OTA (Optical Tube Assembly) without a mount, giving advanced users the freedom to choose a mount that suits their exact needs - whether for visual observation on an alt-azimuth mount or for precise astrophotography on an equatorial mount with autoguiding. GoTo and sky tracking are not included with the tube.
Who is this telescope for?
The Omegon Pro CC 154/1848 OTA is designed for advanced astronomers who already have experience operating a telescope and navigating the night sky. It is suitable for observing the Moon and planets, nebulae and galaxies, as well as for nature observation in daylight. Solar observation is possible exclusively with a suitable solar filter - use without one is strictly prohibited.
This model is not intended for complete beginners or for observatory facilities with large instruments - its strength lies in the hands of an experienced amateur astronomer looking for a powerful and portable instrument.
About the Omegon Pro CC series
Omegon is a brand with a clear focus on the needs of real astronomers - from beginners to experienced observers with demanding requirements. The Pro CC series represents the pinnacle of the range for those who refuse to compromise on optical quality or mechanical construction. Precisely controlled mirrors, well-thought-out suppression of unwanted reflections inside the tube, and the compact dimensions of the Cassegrain design - all of this together creates an instrument that will reliably serve you on every trip under the night sky and when imaging from a home observatory.
