Sky-Watcher AC 70/900 Capricorn EQ-1 Telescope
The Sky-Watcher Capricorn 70/900 is a 70mm achromatic refractor telescope - a classic choice for anyone taking their first steps in astronomy. This is a telescope that genuinely delivers. The two-element FMC-coated lens captures detail on the surface of the Moon, reveals Saturn's rings and the disc of Jupiter, and reaches further targets such as the Andromeda Galaxy, bright star clusters and nebulae. Its compact size also makes it a practical portable option for more experienced observers.
Optics and what is included
The achromatic refractor has a focal length of 900mm and a focal ratio of f/13, with a standard 1.25″ output. The package includes everything you need to start observing straight away:
- 25mm eyepiece - magnification 22.5x
- 10mm eyepiece - magnification 90x
- 90-degree zenith prism for an upright, laterally reversed image
- 6x30 finderscope for easy object location
The focuser has a T2 thread, so you can connect a camera directly to the telescope for astrophotography.
EQ-1 equatorial mount
The German EQ-1 equatorial mount comes with slow-motion controls on both axes, allowing smooth and precise guidance of the telescope. Once you have aligned the mount correctly, you can add an optional clock drive and the mount will track your chosen object automatically.
The declination axis offers a fine adjustment range of approximately 40 degrees without requiring repositioning. The aluminium tripod adjusts in height from 710mm to 1,230mm, so every observer can find a comfortable working position. The metal mounting rings at the top of the tripod have a standard 1/4″ thread.

Who is this telescope for?
The Sky-Watcher Capricorn 70/900 suits beginners who want a real astronomical instrument - not a toy - at an accessible price. The equatorial mount teaches you how the sky moves and prepares you for more advanced observing. The compact build means you can take it to a dark-sky site without difficulty.
What can you observe?
- The Moon - craters, mountains and valleys in clear detail
- The planets - Saturn's rings, Jupiter's disc and its moons, the phases of Venus
- Deep-sky objects - the Andromeda Galaxy, the Pleiades, bright nebulae and star clusters
- Double stars and other bright targets
Upgrade options
- Add a clock drive to the EQ-1 mount for automatic tracking
- Use the T2 thread on the focuser to attach a DSLR or mirrorless camera
- Expand your eyepiece range with additional 1.25″ eyepieces or a Barlow lens
- Add a Moon filter to reduce glare when observing the full Moon
