TS Optics Astro 1.25″ Binoviewer
See More with Both Eyes Open
The TS Optics Astro binoviewer is a full-quality optical accessory designed specifically for astronomical telescopes. This is not a converted microscope attachment. It is a purpose-built instrument engineered for real-world astronomy. Robust construction, precise mechanics and fully multi-coated (FMC) prisms deliver maximum light transmission and sharp, clear images. The binoviewer ships in a solid metal case with protective caps on every optical port, keeping it in perfect condition for years of active use.
Why Observe with Both Eyes?
Try closing one eye and notice what happens - you immediately see fewer details and your eye tires much faster. This is why binoculars feel more comfortable than a monocular for landscape viewing. The same principle applies in astronomy. Observing with both eyes through the TS Optics Astro binoviewer is significantly less tiring. It lets you enjoy long observing sessions without unnecessary strain.
Your brain combines the signals from both eyes at once. The result is a sharper, higher-contrast image with a greater sense of magnification - all from the same telescope. Atmospheric turbulence (seeing) is partially compensated by the brain, producing a calmer and more stable view than you would get with a single eyepiece.
What You Will See
Details on the Moon and planets stand out more clearly in binocular viewing. Binoviewers do split the light between two outputs, so the image is slightly less bright - but it looks more vivid, more three-dimensional and far more engaging. Globular clusters appear structured and almost sculptural. Bright nebulae take on a subtle 3D quality that single-eye viewing simply cannot match.
Precision Eyepiece Clamping
Each eyepiece is secured exactly on the optical axis using a compression ring. The brass ring grips and centres the eyepiece simultaneously, making tilting and double-image artefacts completely impossible. This mechanism is comparable to those used in professional instruments and is far superior to the simple set-screw clamping found on cheaper binoviewers, which can cause decentration and image degradation. Both holders are mechanically identical, so you can mix and match eyepieces freely.
Micrometric Dioptre Adjustment
Just like a quality pair of binoculars, the TS Optics Astro compensates for dioptre differences between your eyes using a micrometric focuser. Insert both eyepieces fully into the holders, then simply turn the micro-focuser dial to set the dioptre correction. Budget binoviewers do not offer this feature - the user must manually extend one eyepiece, which is imprecise and uncomfortable. The TS Optics solution gives you fast, accurate adjustment without moving the eyepieces at all.
Compact Design - Compatible with More Telescopes
The optical path length of just 100 mm places this binoviewer among the most compact models available. Combined with a suitable glass path corrector (sold separately), this compact design fully compensates for the increased optical path and makes the binoviewer compatible even with Newtonian reflectors, where the focuser travel is often limited. The corrector simply threads into the 1.25″ filter thread at the binoviewer input. This considerably extends the range of compatible telescopes and allows you to use the TS Optics Astro binoviewer with virtually any optical system.
Oversized FMC Prisms - No Vignetting
The prisms inside are deliberately oversized to eliminate any risk of vignetting. Looking into the binoviewer without eyepieces, you will see a full, unobstructed circular aperture with no shadowing at the edges. Fully multi-coated surfaces maximise light throughput and suppress stray reflections and ghost images. You can focus entirely on the object you are observing, free from distracting visual artefacts. Prism quality matches the standards used in professional astronomical optics.
Solid Build and Protective Case
The TS Optics Astro 1.25″ binoviewer ships in a rigid metal case that protects it during transport and storage. All optical ports come fitted with dust caps to prevent contamination and scratching of the optics. This level of protection ensures the binoviewer looks and performs like new after many years of regular use.
For the widest telescope compatibility, we recommend adding a glass path corrector. This accessory is available separately and allows you to use the binoviewer with telescopes that have limited focuser travel.
About TS Optics
TS Optics is a well-established German manufacturer and distributor of astronomical optics with a long track record in the amateur astronomy market. TS Optics products are designed around the practical needs of amateur astronomers and are known for careful material selection, precise manufacturing and reliability proven in real observing conditions. The TS Optics Astro 1.25″ binoviewer is a fine example - an instrument that combines optical quality with mechanical precision and genuine user comfort. Astronomers who try binocular viewing once rarely go back to a single eyepiece.
