Binorum 140-180 mm Bahtinov Focusing Mask
Precise focus is everything in astrophotography. The Binorum Bahtinov Focusing Mask is a practical plastic accessory that fits over the front of your telescope and uses a characteristic grid pattern to help you achieve sharp focus quickly and reliably - no more guesswork in the dark. This mask is designed for telescopes with an objective outer diameter of 140 mm to 180 mm.
How it works
The process is straightforward and easy to follow even when you are out in the field at night.
- Place the mask over the front of your telescope.
- Point the telescope at a bright star.
- Switch your camera to live view mode and observe the star on the screen.
- If the image is out of focus, the central diffraction spike produced by the Bahtinov grid will sit off-centre.
- Slowly adjust the focuser until the central spike aligns perfectly with the two outer spikes.
- When all three spikes meet at the same point, you have reached optimal focus for astrophotography.
- Remove the mask and begin your exposure.
