Omegon Cronus WA 6mm 60° 1.25″ eyepiece
A night sky observation session should be an unforgettable experience. A clear, sharp view of Jupiter's Great Red Spot, the perfectly defined rings of Saturn or sprawling globular clusters - all of this depends not only on the quality of your telescope, but above all on the eyepiece you place into it. The Omegon Cronus WA 6mm is an eyepiece designed to get the most out of your telescope - while remaining approachable even for those who are just beginning their journey in astronomy.
Comfortable viewing - even with glasses
One of the key advantages of the Cronus series is the generous 16mm eye relief, which guarantees real comfort during long observing sessions. This is especially appreciated if you wear glasses - the eyecup is twist-up, so you can simply fold or raise it as needed. The 60° field of view is significantly wider than that of classic Kellner eyepieces, which typically offer around 40-45°. In practice, this means you see up to one-third more of the sky at once - a major advantage when observing extended objects such as nebulae or open star clusters.
Minimised kidney bean effect
Experienced astronomers know how unpleasant the so-called kidney bean shadows can be - dark shadows that appear in many eyepieces the moment the eye shifts slightly off-axis. In the Cronus eyepieces, this issue is minimised to a level that is practically negligible during normal observation. For beginners who are still learning the correct viewing technique, this is a significant advantage - they can focus entirely on what they see, rather than on the technique of looking itself.
Fully multi-coated optics for maximum contrast
All air-to-glass surfaces are treated with anti-reflection coatings, which increase light transmission and improve the contrast of the resulting image. The result is an image with excellent sharpness and faithful rendering of fine detail - particularly important at a focal length of 6mm, where you are working at the highest magnifications and any loss of light or contrast is immediately noticeable.
Compatibility and practical use
The eyepiece is fully compatible with the 1.25″ standard and is equipped with a 1.25″ filter thread, so it can easily be combined with lunar, planetary or UHC filters. It is also suitable for use with a binocular viewer.
The 6mm focal length makes this eyepiece ideal for observing objects where you want to achieve high magnification while retaining a sufficiently wide field of view. In practice, this means detailed views of solar system planets:
- Jupiter's atmospheric bands and the Great Red Spot
- Saturn's rings and their structure
- Mars's polar ice cap
- The phases of Venus
It also performs excellently when observing the Moon, globular star clusters or compact planetary nebulae. As part of a series of eight eyepieces with different focal lengths, the Cronus 6mm can be naturally complemented by longer focal lengths from the same range, allowing you to build a complete, well-balanced eyepiece set.
