TS Optics M117/M117 Tilt Adapter

Elongated stars in the corners of your images are one of the most common problems in astrophotography. The cause is usually a slight misalignment between the camera sensor and the optical axis of the telescope. The TS Optics M117/M117 tilt adapter was designed specifically to solve this problem. It lets you fine-tune the angle of the focuser axis and align the sensor plane precisely with the optical field of the telescope. The result is evenly sharp, round stars across the entire frame.

Precise sensor alignment

You adjust the sensor position using three independent screws. These allow sensitive fine-tuning of the tilt in all required directions. Once the sensor is correctly aligned, you lock the position with securing screws, which keep the adjustment firmly in place.

The process takes some time to set up, but you only do it once. After that, the camera stays precisely on the optical axis with no need for repeated adjustment. Astrophotographers working with demanding optical systems will particularly appreciate this approach - it delivers consistent sharpness from the centre to the very edges of the frame.

M117x1 thread on both sides

The adapter uses an M117x1 thread on both the input and output sides. This provides a solid and precise mechanical connection between the telescope focuser and the camera. The optical length of 15 mm is easy to include in your backfocus calculation when planning the overall optical path.

Because the thread is the same on both sides, integration into an existing setup is straightforward - no additional adapter rings or reducers are needed.

Who is this adapter for?

  • Astrophotographers who want round, sharp stars across the full frame
  • Users working with large-format cameras and wide optical fields
  • Anyone building a precise imaging setup with M117x1 connections
  • Observers who have already tried other solutions and still see star elongation in the corners
