TS Optics TSM48ROT - M54 to M48 rotation adapter with quick-release coupling
The TS Optics TSM48ROT was designed to solve real, everyday problems that astrophotographers face in the field. It combines three functions in one compact unit: a quick-release coupling for fast camera removal, smooth 360-degree rotation, and an M54-to-M48 thread reducer. The total optical path length is just 8 mm, so the adapter causes no problems even in critical setups with a short focal length. The knurled locking screws are easy to operate even with gloves on during cold nights under the open sky.
How it works
The adapter consists of two separate parts. The inner, tapered section threads into the telescope via an M54x0.75 connection. The outer part - which attaches to the camera - is secured by three screws and self-centres automatically. This design keeps the inner ring perfectly aligned with the optical axis at all times, with no play or offset. The thick walls and generously long threads hold heavier accessories securely, including filters, field flatteners, and off-axis guiders.
Quick-release system
The quick-release coupling of the TSM48ROT rotation adapter significantly reduces the time you spend handling your setup. You can detach the camera in seconds - for example, to clean dust from the sensor - without any risk of accidentally loosening other connections or tangling cables. When you reattach the camera, it returns to exactly the same position, so there is no need to recalibrate your setup. In practice, this means fewer interruptions during imaging and more time spent on actual observation.
360-degree rotation
The 360-degree rotation is useful whenever you need to adjust the orientation of your sensor relative to the target - whether for framing the shot or for aligning the sensor correctly with the horizon. One particularly valuable use is in combination with an off-axis guider. If you place the TSM48ROT in front of the guider, you can rotate the entire guider freely, which greatly expands the area available for finding a suitable guide star. This small detail can make the difference between a successful imaging session and a wasted night.
Dust protection when the camera is detached
When you remove the camera from the telescope - for example, when switching to a different setup - one of the adapter openings is left exposed. The simple solution is to use the counterpart of a second TSM48ROT adapter with a suitable cap for M48 (see the accessories section). This keeps the thread and optics protected from dust and moisture. It is a subtle but well-thought-out detail, especially useful when transporting your equipment or switching between different telescopes.
