TS Optics 2″/M48 Rotation System Adapter
This adapter from TS Optics converts a 2″ connection to an M48x0.75 thread and forms a fully functional part of the TS Rotation System - a modular rotational system for astrophotography. The telescope side features a 2″ dovetail ring with an internal thread for 2″ filters. The camera side carries an external M48x0.75 thread. This makes it straightforward to connect a wide range of accessories - camera adapters, focal reducers, T-rings, and other M48 components. The optical path through the adapter is just 1.2 mm, so reaching focus is not an issue even with more demanding optical systems.
TS Rotation System - a step beyond standard adapters
The TS Rotation System is a clear improvement over conventional adapter solutions. Every element in the system includes a 2″ connector and integrated 2″ filter threading, so you can add filters directly into your imaging train without extra parts. The key feature is smooth 360-degree rotation, which lets you position your camera or eyepiece at any angle - whether you are composing an image or simply observing in comfort. The connection uses a tapered dovetail channel that self-centres as you tighten it and prevents any unwanted tilt. The result is a rigid, precisely centred joint that holds firm through long exposures.
A flexible system that grows with you
The telescope-side and camera- or eyepiece-side connectors can be freely combined, and the connection direction can be changed to suit your current setup. The system is not locked into a single fixed configuration - it adapts as your equipment and requirements grow. Integrated 2″ filter threading remains accessible in every configuration, regardless of which components you use.
Practical uses
There are many ways to put the rotation system to work, and most of them come directly from everyday observing practice.
- Users of mirror lenses such as the Rubinar 300, 500, or MTO 1000 will appreciate the space-saving way to place 2″ filters between the lens and the camera - no complex modifications to the imaging train needed.
- With modern field correctors that have a longer back focus from the M48 or SC connection to the sensor plane, the rotation system offers a clean way to rotate and adjust the connection at the same time.
- Quick disconnection is another practical benefit - swapping a battery or switching to a different eyepiece takes just a few seconds, with no need to unscrew the entire assembly.
- An adapter with a 2″ filter fitted can remain in front of the camera permanently, protecting the camera body from dust.
- The system provides the same protective function on the telescope side - placed behind the SC connection, it stops dust from entering the tube, while a 2″ IR or UV filter can be left in place at the same time.
The TS Optics Rotation System was developed by amateur astronomers for amateur astronomers - and that connection to real observing practice shows in every detail of its design.
