TS Optics M42/2″ Adapter (Rotation System)
This adapter converts an M42x1 internal thread to a standard 2″ barrel. It is a fully compatible part of the TS Rotation System by TS Optics. It lets you connect a wide range of older camera lenses with an M42x1 thread - for example the popular Soviet mirror lenses Rubinar 300, Rubinar 500, and MTO 1000. The adapter gives new life to optics that would otherwise sit unused, opening them up for visual observation and astrophotography.
Three knurled locking screws engage precisely with the groove of the TS Rotation System rings, giving a firm and reliable connection. On the output side, you can attach any accessory with a 2″ barrel, or use a reduction adapter to accept 1.25″ accessories as well.
About the TS Rotation System
The TS Rotation System is a well-thought-out development of classic adapter solutions, with significantly expanded versatility. Every part of the system includes a 2″ connector with a built-in 2″ filter thread - no extra intermediate pieces needed. The key feature is 360-degree rotation: you can turn your camera or eyepiece to any position at any time, without loosening and re-tightening screws.
Connection is made through a tapered dovetail groove that provides automatic self-centring and self-locking. The adapter tightens itself and cannot tilt or wobble. The overall optical path length of the system is intentionally short, so reaching focus is straightforward with most optical systems.
How the system is arranged
In the system diagram, connectors on the left side face the telescope or telephoto lens. Connectors on the right side face the eyepiece or camera. You can freely combine individual parts and reverse the direction of adaptation to suit your needs. The integrated 2″ filter thread is available in every configuration of the assembly.
Practical benefits
The TS Rotation System was developed directly from real astronomy use, and that shows in how practical it is. Here are the main ways it helps in the field:
- Places 2″ filters compactly between a telephoto lens or telescope and your camera - for example during planetary photography with filters through a Rubinar or MTO 1000.
- Gives modern field correctors with a longer optical path (M48 or SC thread to sensor plane) an elegant solution for both rotation and adaptation in one unit.
- Swapping a battery or accessory takes only a few seconds thanks to the quick-release mechanism - no slow unscrewing and no risk of mechanical stress on threads.
Dust protection for your camera and telescope
The system also protects your camera from dust. An adapter with a 2″ filter can stay permanently in front of the camera body, effectively blocking dirt from entering the imaging space. The same applies on the telescope side - behind an SC connection, the system seals the interior of the tube against dust, and a 2″ IR or UV filter can stay in place permanently. This combination of functionality and optical protection is typical of the whole TS Rotation System philosophy.
